View Full Version : Decoy Primer

I just purchased some Herter's model 72 Ultimates in bluebills and was curious what type of primer would work best for adhesion. Also, what type of prep work should be done? Light sanding, flaming with a torch, or shoot the primer straight on? These decoys are brand new and are bare plastic.

I don't know if I've been using the correct primmer but i use a spray rustolium primer from Rustolium.
In all the decoys I've repainted I've never had any fading, chipping or cracking or even peeling.
Then paint with a flatt marine enamel

If there plain plastic I would spray whith a adhesion promoter used before painting plastic auto bumpers.Just a insurance measure.

Pete, do you know if that will eat the foam? I know it won't bother the top of the decoy being it has a hard plastic shell, but if it gets onto the foam on the bottom it could dissolve it. Thanks Pete, I'll look into it.
