My first hunt over near John Redmond I was hunting in a field in front of a coldisack (butcherd the spelling I know) with one of the locals that lived there and the house surrounds a big pond (kind of like a mini refuge) and I shot one that made it to the pond, But I use my mongoose like sneeking skills and my lab got it off the pond right behind the houses boat dock, that was her first goose two, I am sure the neighbors were wandering whatz up.

There is a park in my home town that winters about 2,000 geese from the Rochester, MN area(smartest birds I've ever tried to hunt). In December there is usually 10 + neck collars and 50 + leg irons.

About 1 out of every 10 geese have a limp!

I had planned to get on him after dark that evening, b/c of the all the traffic, he landed on the 1'st green, so I had a putter in the back of my truck. But when darkness feel, he had already made it back to the water.

I went and asked fish and Game if I could retrieve him off the golf course, and they damn near hauled me away. They thought I wanted to set up on the golf course and try and hunt. Which is in city limits........needless to say, he got to live another day.

Speaking of hunting in Neighborhoods. This year like the last next to last weekend, Jayhawk was hunting over in topeka with some friends and the hunted in a guys back yard. There was an are where the geese were landing in it feeding and they set their decoys up on the guys cement basketball court in his back yard. They hid in pine trees. thats some crazy stuff.

5 or 6 years ago, they collared like 20 some geese at Chanute. This was like in June or July, and by the time that season rolled around, there where only 2 remaining. Alot of them fell prey to the night time bow harvests. I have a pretty good idea who partook in the harvesting, They are the same guys that shot the two trumpeter swans a few years back, killed one, and the other one had an arrow in it, I think it might have made it. Never did catch the people that did it though, and I really don't have any proof to say for sure that those guys did do it. But I have a pretty good idea that they did.

I think the addition of the blues to our spread will pay off, we finally got 50 of them put together and added to the spread, before that we didn't have any, looked kinda supicious if ya asked me. All those pure white geese, and no blues, we will see how much it helps this weekend. If we can get around the rains.

If the birds every show up in really numbers, and the weather cooperates, I will have to give you a call Cself02. The only thing that I am short of is an e-collar. I have always used a just a regular call and done alright by it. But the E-collar should show up in the very near future. I won a bet on the super bowl, and my buddy owes me an E-collar b/c of it. So I need to get his ass in gear.

Has anybody ever messed with that ezdecoymaker stuff to see what it's all about???? I am thinking I am going to invest the $25 to see what it's all about, said you could make a several dozen decoys for just a few dollars. But I am looking at the idea for making my own mold. I already got my duck designed out of clay. If you want to know how and why I am doing this, check out the other site and look under senior project

Me and buddy had a brain storm one night, he gets all kinds of 1/8 inch paneling from work. So we took some Silos and started tracing them on the paneling, then cut out a bunch on the band saw, that is about as far as it got. still waiting to be painted. About 5 dozen of them I think. Keep tellin our selves wait until a rainy day, or we don't need them now, let's wait till closer to season.:ST: :ST: :VC: :VC:

Of course if you look at the upside of saving thirty bucks, that $30 would have paid for the beer last night.:Rich: :BM:

Yeah I got through 90 of them in about 4 hours with a break to get MORE beer and cook some deer burger suprise:) I didn't realize the new snow ones have that good of color to them. Man though they are a pain in the ace...But since I work for a telephone company I have access to billions of tie wraps and I used them to secure them to the dowl, worked pretty nice, but my fingers and hands hurt from doing all those nots. I am starting to think the pre done ones are looking pretty nice.

If ya got the money, go for it, IMO you can never have too many decoys. I am planning to add more to the spread, just as soon as the money situation is a little better.:SK: It might help if I went out and got a job, but then.... when would I get to hunt:bang: :Deb: Speaking of money, my refund check should be getting here soon.:uh: :uh: :MS: :pl:
