Congrats on the new puppy. I'll have to see her some time. As far as the name goes, I suppose 'bit*h' would be more of a literal descriptive than a name. But it shure would get the attention of everyone within ear shot when you play fetch at the park... LOL

"Maggie" ...that's our Lab. Had a Chesapeake named CoCo for many years. Let us know what you decide on.

I agree with Charlie Hess...Something to go with HH..How about Haley, Halie or Harley________ Honker's.. or you can add something from the pups parents....I just got a yellow lab which we named "A-train Skyrocket Suzie" ...Good Luck and enjoy the pup...AL-IA

Whatever name you settle on it is usually best if it is a single sylable name. You know like madge or june or something like that.

dogs respond to single sylables. Think about it for a minute

Fetch, Sit, Stay, Come, Heel, No.

all single sylables.

BTW my dos name is mortimusicandoitmyself

Im with Shotgun on this one . All of my dogs have a one syllable names for the reasons he stated. I try to pick a name that does not sound close to the major commands. Males: Oak. Nick , Ruff Female names are a little tougher to get one syllable Woods and Water has a good one with sage a little close to the command sit but it would work. The book Training Your Retriever by James Lamb Free has old listings of past champs of the old days. There are a lot of great names in the back of the book. If you trained any dogs by this book you are getting long in the tooth. good luck

How about these names.

HH, I tried to pick a name to go along with a kind of duck hunting theme. Maybe a little dumb, but my choc. lab females name is Lilly Pad or Lilly for short.

Personal Favorite-Mike's Blonde Bomber, other wise known as TUBBY!!! She only lived to be 21.....quite a feat for a lab!

my next dog, if it is a black lab, is going to be named "smokes"

If she is black: Black Magic D'paws "Magic" or Duffy.

I agree that 1 syllable names work best for dogs learning their name quickly. Nothing better than a good name for your lab. I had a good one for my next pup that I got watching rodeo on TNN. But I can't for the life of me remember it....That drives me nuts. My current black lab is Bushwackers Grits Huckleberry...aka Huck...which I think is cool. How about Mojo for a girl. Even though it is more than 1 syllable it should be easy to discern for a pup.

Maybe crazy, but the first thing that popped in my mind was the name "Sable".....??
Good luck, wish I had the same problem!!

Cricket is one that I think is good or maybe if your hunting waterfowl you could maybe call it something like suzy(like the hen mallard), marsh(myfavorite!!),drake,or canvas. Hope this helps i'm getting my pup in 2 weeks!! very exicited about it. Good luck.
