2003 IWA “WATERFOWL SYMPOSIUM AND CALLING CLASSIC”
The show and calling contests have passed and what a huge success they both were! After an absence from Peoria since March of 2000 it was great to be back. It was nice to see so many of our old friends and make many, many new ones! I want to thank my contest committee for their efforts and the manner of professionalism in which they performed. They are to be commended in the highest! I received a huge amount of compliments on the contests and how well they were run.
My job of organizing the contests was paled by this fine group of guys……they are:
Mike Luebbers emcee, Dave Peterson and Doug Brock doing the computerized scoring, Brian Bausch on the timer and light, Brian Eddy, Jacob Murillo and Whitey Copley picking up score sheets and Gary Miner, Tim Hays and Darrell Park in the bullpen.
This years events would not have been possible without the aid of our sponsors. Avery loaded us up with many great prizes for all of the contests and in addition, was the Title Sponsor for the IWA – Avery “Masters” North American Goose Calling Championship!
IWA JUNIOR NORTH AMERICAN DUCK CALLING CHAMPIONSHIP
There were twenty-one Junior callers in all, comprised of seven in the “12 and under” age group and fourteen in the “13 – 16 year old” age group. This group of callers represented seven different states, which were Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska and Wisconsin. These kids are extremely talented and amongst them have already won several World titles and will most likely win several more, no matter at what level they compete!
I would like to thank Jeff Foiles for his contribution of “special hunts” for the winners and a companion in both age groups! To Kolpin Outdoors, Inc. for their cash contribution to the winners and to Avery for pit bags, gun cases and shell belts to the top three place winners! The top three in each group were:
12 and Under

Tim Presley’s South Side Worm Ranch and Art Ladehoff of Clinton Decoy Co. contributed one dozen Big Foot goose decoys each to the winning team members. Avery again supplied us with pit bags, gun cases and shell belts for first through third place!
There were nineteen teams in this contest representing ten states and Canada! They were Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Ontario, Canada. The competition was fierce and after three rounds of calling the top three teams were:

The IWA sponsored this contest with $1500 in prize money to the top five callers and the IWA Regional Championship Cup. Avery also sponsored this contest with pit bags, floating gun cases and shell belts for the top three callers.

Avery was the Title Sponsor of this years “Masters” and allowed us to award $2000 cash in total to the top five contestants. They also provided an Avery Finisher ground blind to the winner and $1000, second place received $500 and an Avery pit bag, third place received $250 and an Avery floating gun case, fourth received $150 and fifth received $100. The winner also received the IWA-Avery “Masters” North American Goose Calling Championship Cup and an automatic berth into the Avery International in January of 2004!
There were a whopping fifty- one callers in this contest representing twelve states and Canada! They were Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Ontario, Canada. At the end of three rounds of calling there was a tie for third and a tie for fifth. The ties were broken and the top five callers were:
1st Place – Derrick Damron LaCenter, Kentucky
2nd Place – Sean Hammock Edwardsburg, Michigan
3rd Place – Kelley Powers Union City, Tennessee
4th Place – John Bolen Carrollton, Illinois
