Beasley Tract of Princess Anne WMA, Virginia Beach, VA:
Adjacent to the Whitehurst WMA, the state of Virginia has purchased approximately 120 acres to create habitat and expand the public waterfowl hunting opportunity. The VDGIF plan is to add a series of impoundments and stationary blinds to be used for the draw hunts and floating blinds program on Back Bay for organized hunts, in the process, increasing our waterfowling opportunities.
Because of budget reductions in the VDGIF, assistance the VAWFA can offer is invaluable. The VAWFA is seeking members and guests to volunteer to assist with water control and construction of impoundment systems. At least one volunteer with heavy equipment operation experience is needed. This project will consist of one Saturday within the next 30 days. The stationary blinds to be constructed within the next 60 days and will consist of a Saturday or two (volunteers also needed).
One of the stationary duck blinds will be handicap accessible.
The impoundments will be planted late June/July. This is an excellent partnering opportunity for the VDGIF and VAWFA and for members to gain information on creating waterfowl habitat and impoundments.
Please join us in this waterfowl habitat improvement effort.
