View Full Version : puppy retrieve question

my pup has decided that he does not want to retrieve. He will occasionally, but then it is just a fast walk over to the bumper. He will return it when he goes, but getting him to go is the hadt part now. I tried a real bird with him today, and he retrieved well. Any thought on how to get him interested in bumpers again??? Also, this guy is a REAL head-strong dog - any ideas on how to break that? thanks in advance guys.

Get the Tri-Tronics retiever training book. And if the pup has lost is puppy teeth.Start the force fetch training. In my opinion. It's a good program.Hasn't failed whith the two labs i have owned.Or the hundreds I've seen.

Have some fun with your pup. How old is he/she? Keep training sessions short, like 3 to 5 retrieves. Stop when she does a good one. It will keep her drive up. LOTS of praise. If the pup is very young just make it fun. A good video is "sound beginning" by Jackie Mertens. Good luck. And that TT book is top notch.
