Been flingin' arrows here. Had 3 bucks, and one bruiser in last night. Gotta shoot one more doe before I'm allowed another buck though.
10-03-2003, 10:05 AM
I'm new here.... I went out with a buddy and my golden Seamus this week on his first goose hunt. We only had one flock come in and it was kinda awkward as they flew by behind the blind which made shooting interesting. Long story short we only knocked down one bird, and it was hysterical watching Seamus with it. He just did not know how to handle it.
When we got home I used it for several retrieves in the yard and then did some sight blinds using it and in the end he was starting to get the hang of how to retrieve a goose. We're getting ready of duck season opening and I'm trying to camo a boat I just bought.

Resident goose season and our first early duck are over with respectable results. Already bagged one doe with archery gear. Trying to finish the boat before the second split in November and getting close.

Thanks for the encouragement guys!
I am actually building Devlin's Black Brant III, a 14'3" sneakboat that is about 70" on beam. Its rated for 30 HP, but I'll be running an older Mercury 20-HP because the price was right (free).
I was working on fitting the decks tonight and pre-drilling the screw holes. Getting there...

Yea what Bob said.
Today I saw about 30 snows in a school football field feeding with some canada geese. Something we don't get to see much of here in Connecticut.
Had a rotten opener for ducks. Hunted small beaver pond when I was there Monday tons of woodies and mallards. Go on wed only manage 1 woody and 1 mallard. Was good to get out .

I figured I would add another NC to the list. The good news is that our goose season comes back in next week; the bad news is that there is a 2 bird limit because we are in the "Southern James Bay" zone.
Hey Magten, are you outside of this zone?
10-10-2003, 08:17 AM
I built one of thosse rigs.......3 yrs' ago. Safe ride. We started with a 20hp, ended up with a 30. The 20 wasn't just enough to get her up and out the hole. But the price was right for your motor FREE!!!!!. She looks good. Its all down hill from there with the construction, light can be seen at the end of the tunnel. Oh yeah, one thing I did was install a removeable floor section. So cleanout was easy. You be surprised with what accumulates during a season under there. Also, I put a little bit more support action on that bow deck. That area usaully becomes a step for every body so I beefed up Devlin suggested. No real extra weight. Pretty work buddy !
I'm still shaking about that band.(hahaha)

Season is going great so far and the honkers are coming through in big bad numbers, you Connecticut guys should be seeing them babies soon....
10-13-2003, 07:54 AM
Just got back home from my trip to Prince Edward Island. Weather wasn't the greatest for bird hunting, last couple of days the weather was pushing 80 degrees and little wind.
We did scrape up 44 geese and 21 or 22 ducks for the week all blacks and 2 mallards. No geese in the area yet, perhaps all this warm weather is keeping them up north. Plenty of ducks around but we didn't really bother to hunt em up.

Just wanted to let yall know there is someone in here representing the state of Virginia, to be more specific, the Shenandoah Valley. So hail calls to everyone! Our early season was not what it has been in the past, but the more recent 4 day duck season was the best it's been in the 10 years I've been hunting waterfowl! Best of luck to everyone!
