Our season started off a lot lower in numbers than the previous 3 or 4, but still had a great time with the yellar dawg. He's such a joy to watch work and this being his 5th season, he's really gotten very bird savvy and requires little if any handling on marks or blinds.

We shot 4 mallards Saturday and 3 more on Sunday. Not bad considering the drought has left our pond not much more than a mud hole with a little creek flowing through it. The FUDs continue to be very effective as field feeders.

Well Jim, You and Cappy seem to be doing fine. Our opening weekend was about the same. A few properties around us educated a lot of locals. That is ok, I have just the right place for them when they settle down. I saw more birds flying this weekend than the past few opening seasons. Lots of locals. Onyx retrieved the first bird of the season. A juvenile Mallard drake with hardly any green on em. It is glad to be back in the swing of things. Have a good season, I am sure we will be trading pictures soon.

I didn't mention it above but take a closer look at those mallards. Two adult drakes on the right, three suzies on the left and two eclipses in the middle. You have to look closely to pick out the color on numbers 3 and 4 from the right (especially in flight).
