Pretty quiet in here.
We're right in the middle of goose season, but, am I the only one that can't help but think it's only 157 days 'till longbeard season? I'll be at it even sooner looking for them. I can't wait - the first gobble of the year is a blessed moment! :uh:

Baron - I think you were reading my mind. I was just thinking/musing on gobbler hunting this morning in the goose field. Time to put some chalk on the box calls and start practicing on the diaphragms too. Bought a new aluminum slate from Roger Miller and an acrylic striker for those damp days. They're starting to flock up pretty good around here; let's hope for a relatively mild winter. Got anymore videos I haven't seen yet?

Hey I thought I was the only one thinking about turkeys this time of year! Ditto on the mild winter, but I hope we get all the snow and cold in Dec and Jan this year, rather than Feb, Mar, Apr like some recent years...
I'm with ya' on that one. All of these radio spots which utilize turkey gobbles has me thinkin' of somethin' with spurs and a
beard - incidentally I saw my first bearded hen (in the wild)this past week from a treestand in Eastern Iowa - she was feedin' with about 30 other hens - I wish I had seen as many whitetails!

Look at that beard swing!:Art: Glad to see I'm not alone in my thoughts. I want to bag one with a flintlock this year, but I can't find one!! Damn these Canadian gun shops.:CL:
Stub... you have only seen the tip of the iceberg. My turkey video collection rivals your stack of goose videos! I'll pack up some more teasers for next time we cross paths.

Baron - the smoke pole sounds intriguing but I'm going BIG this Spring. Traded for a Remington SP 10 23 inch Mossy Oak acorn buzzard basher. Can't wait to ventilate a long beard's melon with that puppy. Hehehehe. I just hope I don't have to hold it up for 15 minutes or so waiting for a wise one to get in range. Guess I better start taking my protein suppliments.

Was out this morning checking on the sky rat situation and seen 3 "dandy" toms walking in a field. Hopefully I can get to know them better in the spring. Starting to get the itch more and more.

HEY, I don't want to be left out, I know I am only a rookie, but last year I did get the bug you guys are talking about. It took me till the last day to bag my Tom (10"-beard), no bragging.:JW: First years luck, however talking to the farmer about 3 weeks ago, said he has been seeing them lots, and more of them. Should have my Tom by 7:30am, first day. I shouldn't talk like this, but I'll go out on a limb! With a little luck. Always nice to have the landowner, looking out for you.:TT: Get ready for more questions in 5 months. What is the count down now Stubbie? Turkeycollar

was thinking about it yesterday - saw 7 nice longbeards about a month ago; each had a beard longer than the other (kinda like a 3 handled family gridunza).:TT:

gc - There is a fella in SE Ontario that charges about $150.00 for the morning for one fella and $200.00 for two fellas hunting together. gatorman and his wife go on a couple guided hunts every year with a fella out of Trenton that knows his stuff. Maybe Baron will post up about his guided hunt that he booked with the fella in the Campbellford area when he first started out...yikes. One of the fellas that hunts with me went on a guided turkey hunt here last year and the guide shot his bird.......thanks for coming eh! Some people's kids. :CZ:

So Stub, what did you tell him after you shot his bird. :nn:

Stubb did you keep the meat too?, after you shot the clients bird. You must be talking Canadian funds? Not bad for a few hours, the pressure must be on to get a bird for the hunter.

BC - you kill me. I guess I worded that poorly. One of the guys that goose hunts with me booked a guided turkey hunt with a local turkey outfitter (not me). The guide set him up and moved about thirty yards away and started calling. The bird flew down off the roost and ran to the guide and he shot it. To add insult to injury the guide wanted the client to tag it and take it.....uhhhh; NO! So gc it wasn't me in the story. Beer Cellar is just up to his old tricks. Would you go with a turkey guide that carries a gun; I didn't think so. I'm still progressing along the long beard learning curve so I don't think I'll be hanging my turkey guiding shingle out anytime soon. STUB

T - 135 days now. (Oh yeah... kygoose - you're not playing fair putting up posts like that :CY: )
goosecollar - maybe this year you'll be posting pics on the first day! (don't forget to pattern your gun!!!) I know I'm never going to forget the lessons I learned last year with the Wood Duck Wizard. #1 - patience. #2 - patience and #3... patience!!
And I might actually hunt with the Bear Caller again, now that he's got the gremlin off his back!:JW:
Stub - you and I should try to get out. You know - I can give you a few tips, meet your farmers, get their phone numbers, etc...:OUCH:

Barren....I just added a new farm to the roster yesterday. On Saturday I dropped a plucked goose off to a farmer and there were at least 40 birds in his back field. He had just started spreading manure on the back field and the turkeys were picking through it for undigested cow corn leavins' and bugs I guess. (Yum Yum) The birds winter there but aren't there in the spring. I contacted Canadian Camo and ordered one of those padded gun rests that goes on your knee for resting the SP10. Are you lads coming up for the NWTF banquet in Peterpatch this spring? If so we'll reserve a table and you can all bunk in at Chez STUB.

I think it's a pretty safe bet to book us into the chez. I'll commit my $ right now, and I'm sure BC will sign on as soon as the date is set.

Baron, not sure if I mentioned last year to you or not, I bought an undertaker extra full choke, right after I missed the first big tom I have ever seen, at 20 yards. The next bird wasn't so lucky. Undertaker put him down, I figured what is another $50.00. see I do listen to you, after all. I think it was you who told me in the first place, And yes I will patern my gun before I go out this year. Wonder what I'll learn this year.Looking forward to seeing some dead turkeys on here, do you have a camera yet Stubs? Opening day will be another vacation day added to the list.

Baron, Stubs,
You can count me in on the Old turkey banquet. I'm looking forward to getting that driftwood art this year. Maybe even have a few tumblers before the event.
GC,
I have an undertaker choke tube and was very happy with it's performance on "old tiny beard" last year. I'm really looking forward to hunting these birds again. Maybe I'll get an invite from Mr. Barren this year for an EXCELLENT hunt.:nn:
