Cliff,
Thanks for the update. We have been seeing some birds slowly trickling in over the past 3 days. If you need a place way south of you to come to, you are always welcome.

Boy I hope it pushes some of those long neck S**'s down here. We haven't had a heavy migration of honks for about 10 years. Please let this be the year. Nocalhonker

Flocknocker,

Thanks for the update, It is really appreciated. I noticed a big migration flight Saturday Morning, Spec's by the 1,000's way way up in the atmosphere, coming in from the Northwest at shoot time. Please keep up the notices

I looked at Spokane, WA weather and it does look cold up there, read good for us down here. Nothing but high 20's and snow for them through the end of the week forecast.

Nocalhonker,

You are right, it has been about 10 years since the Honkers showed up strong in our area. I shot off Wickman Rd, about 12 years ago, and we did a number on the Honks that year. If we keep getting these arctic blasts they should be down here soon...:uh:

Do you still hunt there. Wickman south of hwy 162 or North. Yea that year. The last two weeks we shot 87.. Thats pretty good for the valley. Could of shot 150 if we would of had the people. We shot like 126 between 6 of us on the season. God I miss the good old days. Well it use to be about 3 out of 5 years we would get a decent amount migrate in. With one of those years being real good know it is mostly locals. Average about 15 a year the last 5 years. Well I going to see if any locals are useing the rice tomarrrow morning we can only hope!!! Also what club were you hunting. I hunt about 1 mile west of Wickman rd. on Afton Rd. Take Care Nocalhonker

Nocal,

That year it was south of 162, Dave Schell's place. That year the ponds were covered in smart weed, with a big mow on each side of the blind. We could hear the honk's a mile away going up and down the west side of Cherokee slough. We had some good callers, and we would start up and sure enough, 5 minutes later we could finally see em coming.

I still hunt in the area, off wickman to the north of 162, or Richvale hwy, by the s-curve. I saw the first bald eagle of the season this morning, in the swan grind just north of 162 at Wickman. The ducks haven't started grinding, and the bald eagles are already down, so it must be cold up at Almanor & Klammath. The Honks can't be to far behind

Sorry to hear you didn't have enough guys in the blind a few years back. Let me know if you have that problem again this year, and I promise to call my little head off, specks or honkers. I think it is going to take a disease outbreak on Sac closed zone before the ducks ever show up over on our side. They are unbelievably thick in there, yet we hardly see a one. I have seen thousands of spec's and swans, some snows, but only a handful of ducks so far.

Hope you have a good season, with or without the big guys.

CA Fowler What place are you hunting do you lease it from the farmer or from an individual. Yea I sea the swans in that field. My place has been slow on ducks so far. I don't have the field that we shot the honks at anymore it was up out of Nelson. Now I have to chase them all over when I can find them were I can get permission but that is tough. I get to watch thousands of geese and lots of ducks on the ranch to the south of my blind. Can't wait for the fog thats when I do the best. What kind of spec call and honker call do you blow. It's 45 degrees here!?!I have seen some new birds. They must be holding somewhere inbetween, or they went right on by.
