Do you guys ever use this call? I know that in some movies they do and in some they don't?
Does it work well if you use it?

I use it everytime I have a flock within 20 and they still have they wings set. Then I give them lone honks from there on to see if I can coax them into coming any closer.

I use it alot and often...I love the low and dirty stuff...I think alot of the time people make the mistake of shutting up and that is not what geese do..they are quiet when something wrong or something spoked them <img border="0" alt="[VC]" title="" src="graemlins/VC.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Juice&BlueWang]" title="" src="graemlins/Juice&BlueWang.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[BlueWang]" title="" src="graemlins/BlueWang.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[BlueWang]" title="" src="graemlins/BlueWang.gif" />

What is a laydown Call, in your opinion? What I might call my lay down call might not be the same as everyone else??? <img border="0" alt="[BlueWang]" title="" src="graemlins/BlueWang.gif" />

Yep... use a laydown all of the time when they're close. Usually, if I'm hunt a few of my buds... only one of us blows the lay down when they're comin and and the rest short clucks and grunts. Although this year was a little different for us. All of us in the pit would have to call our asses off just to get 'em down and keep the pace till they got within range or they flared. Ya, we had our exceptions, but this was pretty much the norm this year for us. IMO a "laydown" is goin from high to low all in one note and with gutteral and collapsing my off hand over the barrel when I go down on the note.

I use it alot. You can use it so your not just shuting up but you dont blow them out of the field also.

I agree with the rest if they will keep coming and I am always trying to get them on top of us, if you stop they will flare because the first thing geese do when they are spooked is shut up. Low and gutteral, with some of the duh, duh, duh's breaking into a quick high note, works very well.

Good call to have the beginners do.I hunt whith a couple of guys that aren't confident in there calling. So I have them do laydown calls and sort clucks when the birds are under 50 yards. And the more seasoned callers will do soft clucks and moans.

I find the laydown calls works best when I have geese close enough that I can hear them making the real call themselves, but just a little far to shoot. As soon as I hear them doing it, I get up on the laydown( kind of exicted like ) it usually makes them commit and that's all she wrote.....

Yes sir ....
I am a huge fan of what Powers does does as the birds are gliding right in.... 2 feeding growl notes followed by a medium - high pitched cluck continued over and over... Sounds right on...

So what exactly is this lay down call? i've heard different experts and different hunters use the name "lay down" call for different sounds. can somebody describe it for me? thanks a million....

I'm with FANATIC on this one, that double murmur and single cluck is deadly. Don't know what the seceret is but man is that sound evil!!! Dr.Bob the laydown call is a bunch of low gravely murmurs and short contented clucks mixed together, you know the last sound you hear before the thunder starts!!!

The first thing I thought of with this post was Kelley!! That thing with the laydown he does...BBBBOOOYYYY....it's almost like a car that won't quite turn over! I love it!
I murmur and cluck a LOT! Depending on the how much the geese are talking back...determines the speed. but I have the deep goose down!! Ain't that right Meredith!

Ya Hest, that is friggin awesome.... The car desription is dead on, totally know what ya mean...
I'm all about low end growl....IMO, separating a goose from goosecall???????????
And DIGGLER... What I think is that the sound combo Powers does, could well be very close to what incoming birds might hear... The low end murmurs of geese with a mouth full of food and some sentry's clucking away.... One can get that combo(Powers) going pretty quickly and maybe its a close comparison to what the birds are really hearing??????? I know, when Powers does it, it is awesome.......
