Was picking up some lawn stuff at wally world and this guy pulled up with one of the most awesome Bowfishing rigs I had ever seen - complete with trolling motor on the front deck! Had a huge shooting platform and all. I did do some bow fishing in College and had some fun - but haven't since then. Anybody do it here? Any tips for a guy like myself thinking about giving it a try?
Thanks Bones

My son goes a lot. Has a fancy rig with platform, lights & all the whistles & bells. They just got back from a tournament at Ky. Lake & no luck, rain & high winds kept em off the water. They had high hopes shot 400 lbs. last year at the tournament. I'm gonna do some taping for em on their night hunts. The way they talk the amount of fish you see at night under lights is unbelievable.

Thanks for the info KY - does your son do most of his bowfishing at night? Is the night better than the day? The rig I had seen had two or 3 big spot lights on it. Didn't know if it was for bowfishing or for crabbing in the saltwater.

Yea it's all night fishing, he has 6 lights on the platform at foot level shining in the water, with 2 shooters on the platform they can cover the front & about 6 ft. on each side of the boat.

Bones...I think the reason you didn't go with that guy was because he took one look at you and said that if you guys got stuck in the mud, he'd use you as a pushpole!:Deb:

But at least he would be able to get me back out of the mud......unlike some "husky" guy I know! :JW: :MS:

between me and my budies we have three boats with platforms with 8 halogen lights pointing into the water off the platform and they are ran off a generator. works pretty good and we like going better at night because with the lights you see a lot better than you can in the daytime if you have any more questions let me know and i will try to help you. we have probably stuck close 200 fish already this year its a blast man. good luck.

My set up is just like glider explained. 4500W generator 4 to 6 500W hallogen flood lights and start stacking up the carp. Never shot tourneys but just for fun. Without a boat go out in the daylight to small shallow ditches that are filled up with carp and just shoot as they swim by. hard to get the big ones in the ditches but I have had days where I could shoot 2-4 pounders untill I was too sore to pull the bow back again.

My bro-n-law has been doing it for a while and has several 35-45# carp & buffalo under his belt. My biggest has been a 15-20# carp. Very addictive if you have the time.
