For those following my other post about problems I have been having with my Super X2, the latest is that I have been told that the action spring/tube may be gummed up and dirty.

I haven't had time to tackle this one, and was wondering if this is something that a gunsmith should handle? I am somewhat handy with cleaning my gun and break it down as much as I can 3-4 times a year for a thorough cleaning. However, I have never took the stock off of the X2 yet --- was wondering if somebody could shed some light on the process, and if I am getting in too deep.

Thanks in advance.

No problem removing the stock.

First, remove the recoil pad usig a phillips screwdriver (hint: put a drop or two of oil on the tip of the screwdriver to prevent tearing the rubber around the holes. A #1 phillips seems to be the right size, if I recall. With the recoil pad removed, use a 3/4" deepwell socket to remove the retaining nut. Once the retaining nut is removed, remove the spacer (note: the end of the spacer which goes against the shim is beveled) and shim. The stock will then slide right off. Assembly is in the reverse order. I don't recall if the shim is countersunk on one side or not where the spacer hits it - just note the orientation of them when removing and put them back the same way. Pretty easy, really.

The parts diagram for the SX-2 may be of some assistance:

The SureCycle instructions for the BRN-01 may be of some assistance as well.

Were it me, as long as you are going through the effort (and $100 isn't going to break you up in business), I'd replace the spring with the SureCycle. Your call!

If you run into problems, post up

Once the stock is off you still need to remove the action spring and followers. WEAR SAFETY GLASSES! Depress the plastic retainer about 1/4"-1/2" from the butt end of the gun. While holding the retainer forward, slide the retaining pin (a small pin near the threads) out the side of the action tube. Then GENTLY release the tension of the action spring and remove all three pieces from the inside of the action tube. I use a wire brush to remove any corrosion from the inside of the tube. I then spray a patch with BreakFree CLP and run it through the tube followed by a dry patch. Spray the spring as well and wipe off all excess. I stretch my springs a couple of inches for a more positive lock up after ejecting an empty shell.

Reinstall in the reverse order. The whole process is not hard to do, it's just the uncertainty that goes along with doing something for the first time. Post up or PM if you have any troubles or questions. Good luck. Bgold35.
