The more I shoot steel shot through this tube, the more I like it. Here is a load that I could never get to pattern worth a Chit! It is a reload of 1-1/16 oz. of #4 steel at an average of 1650 f.p.s. It is 91% @ 30 yds.

As good as this tube is with steel, I cannot get it to pattern Hevi shot worth a darn except for #6! I've never seen anything like it before. I've tried #5, #4, and #2s. The bigger the shot gets, the worse the patterns get. I've tried two different payloads of #2 HS. 1-1/2 oz. and 1-1/4 oz and cannot get better than 60% patterns @ 40 yards. I tried both of these payloads in reloads and Remington factory loads. :CF: I guess I'll try a different tube. I am trying to find the holy grail of choke tubes, one that patterns my high velocity steel good out to 30 yards and a long range pattern for Hevi shot for the 3rd shot in the gun.:TT:

At $50+ per custom tube, plus ammo, that will be a very expensive life's work, perhaps. As long as you enjoy patterning, then keep looking and I hope you find it. The pattern you posted looks good. Being 4's, it would be an awesome load for teal or bluebills, or maybe.... Buffleheads.:Rich: Strange about the Hevi-Shot, as I thought it was very tight patterning stuff.:hs: :CF:

QW..
If you building your own Hevi .. try slowing them down just a touch... Seems like the harder you push it regardless of the shot load the "Bigger" and less managed it seems to be. A 1320-1270 reduction makes a huge diff. And don't be concerned about the down range , It is still there for those wobblers going out.

duckpoor, I loaded up the the same loads with 1gr. less powder and will pattern them tonight and see what happens. Both of my loads are in the 1325 to 1350 f.p.s range.

QW..I shoot the Remington factory loads 2 3/4 " and 1 1/4 oz. moving at 1325 f.p.s. , I have tried the 1450 Remington stuff and did not like it at all. The slow stuff hits like a flying cast-iron skillet!! Did you get my pm on choke tubes? I have a new tube I'm gonna try out soon with the HS, I hear its killer!! I hope to pattern it this weekend with some Hevi # 4 s . We will report back! :uh:
