There is a pond that I have been fishing this summer that has some big catfish in.I have caught a 10lb and a 12lb so far. This pond is overrun with turtles though. The owner says to kill no turtles.Does anyone know of a bait I can use that the turtles leave alone?Sometimes you will catch 5 or 6 turtles and no catfish. Its that bad.

Try Hog Wild Stink Bait. They sell it at Walmart and I have caught many Cats on it and no turtles so far. Use sponge hooks for the stink bait. Most takle stores will sell the sponge so you can make it yourself. Walmart sells spong hooks in a package of 3 for .99. Also, you can catch cats on Ivory soap. Don't know why but they bite it.

Good Luck,
Matt

This old man that I met a while back asked me to go catfishing with him. We went on the Monocacy river and he was hanging lines only about 4"-6" into the water from just about every overhanging branch we came across. Here's the part you're not going to believe....he was using Ivory soap chunks!!! We hung all 30 or so lines, went back upstream and floated down just ripping cats out of the water as we went!

The soap in the water chokes fish and makes it so they can't breath. I wouldn't put it in a pond or you could have a fish kill and really piss the landowner off. I have used soap to kill fish for mounting without messing them up in a wash tub or bucket. I have also read that you can heard fish down stream for bowfishing past archers by putting soap in upstream. The guy hanging soap along the bank must have been getting them out from under their hides and out into the open where thet could be caught. :CF:
