I had a little time this evening so I did a little pattern testing and here is what I came up with, these are my reloads

3" 1 7\8oz 2 shot w/standard 209 primer 93% @30yds

3" 1 7\8oz 2 shot w/Fed 209A mag primer 95% @30yds

3" 1 5\8oz 2 shot w/standard 209 primer 96% @30yds

3" 1 5\8oz 2 shot w/Fed 209A mag primer 96% @30yds

I don't think that is bad at all, which leads to a question? with something like this does a guy need an aftermarket choke tube???

I know that this isn't 40yds but say you can probably expect to lose maybe 10%-15% off the 30yd tests so it might be around say 80-85% at 40 yds, how bad is that????

please let me know what you think on this

thanks

Matt

Those look like lead loads, are they? Reguardless, those are some damn tight patterns. Looks like your gun loves them #2s.

I may be wrong here but "back in the day" (lead) wasn't full choke performance considered anything over 70% at 40 yds???? If you are getting that kind of performance and the patterns are even I think you would be nuts to switch. The whole idea of using aftermarket chokes is to obtain the numbers you are already getting. To me it is very settling to know that your gun is "on" and throwing good patterns. The only thing I can think is that you might want something a little looser fro decoying birds. 1 7/8 ounces of #2 Bismuth with the patterns you are getting and there is not going to be too much of the bird left at anything under 20 yds. The only problem now is you have no good excuses to miss!
