I have a friend who has owned a Browning Gold 3 1/2" for a couple of years now. Probably hasn't shot 3 boxes of shells through it yet. The problem is the gun quits ejecting shells after about 5 or 6 shots. He has kept it clean thinking this might be the problem but to no avail. Have any of you guys had any problems with the Gold 3 1/2 ejecting shells and if so, what is the problem? He's used to shooting an A-5 magnum and this problem is driving him nuts. Thanks for any info guys. Jim (jrs08)

That is complete opposite of mine. It ejects the shells about 20' away. I bought my used last year, and shot with someone else who shoots one. My firest question to him was if his did the same and he said yes. I pitty the first guy in the blind next to me that takes one in the side of the head. My Gold 3 1/2' kicks low base, oz of 8's, vs heavy 3 .5" mag loads equal distance, and I haven't cleaned it yet. Your friends might have some other issues going besides normal gunk buildup. Try taking it to a good smith.

I have had the same luck with mine, no problems at all

I had the same problems with mine. I got it the 2nd year it was out and it never did work right. I even sent it back to Browning and they said I didn't have it oiled well enough. Try putting a couople of drops of oil in the grooves on the inside of the reciever. It didn't work for me but some guys said that it did for them. I finaly got tired of mine and traded it in for a Bereta. I hope you have better luck with yours than I did with mine.

Mine works just fine. someone said their's kicks the emties about 20' away. Now I have an idea of where to start looking for mine! I think Browning makes a fine gun, my buddy has the same and uses the crap out of it in NJ for ducks and snow geese. You want mud and black muck, jersey's got it. He has had good luck also.

Sounds like he's either got a malfunctioning part, or he's not getting it clean enough. Glad to hear it's not a problem that's common with the Golds. He feels as though he picked up an expensive single shot. I'll try to get him to have a gun smith look at it and see what the problem might be. Thanks again for the input.

How is the gun jamming? Is the shell hanging out the side of the ejection port? Still in the receiver? In the chamber? (actually an extraction problem) Where?

If the gun is not ejecting I would check the gas ports in the barrel for grime. Clean the gas piston with a good degreaser and try it again. Try these and let us know. My first Gold needed a new gas piston. What are the letters in your serial number? This may be an early production gun which needs the upgrades like one of mine did. My buddy just broke the lower gas ring in the piston on his X2 which has the identical piston as mine. It would not eject. I put my piston on his gun and it shot fine. We might need more info so keep us informed.

First time I used the magazine cut-off switch with shells in the gun it breaks. It looks like the little lever is made of pot metal/cast metal. The broken edge is very porous, with air pockets. I had one 3" and one 3.5" shell in the magazine, when I flipped the cut-off switch.

In hindsight I probably wouldn't use this switch, just always unload all the way. I will just try to remove the broken lever, and not replace it. It can't break again that way!! Probably a hundred dollar part....

Just a heads up to other gold 3.5 shooters. Not digging on Browning, still my favorite brand.

Thanks for the heads-up! I use the cut-off switch often.
