Well guys, after applying to Wyoming for 24 years, I drew my Bighorn sheep tag this year. It was a tough, backpack hunt, no horses involved. Our first camp was at 9500 feet, then moved up and hunted from our camp at 12,000 feet. I was sure glad I spent all spring and summer doing my two a day workouts to get in the best shape possible for this hunt. Absolutely stunning country. After 4 days we located a band of 9 rams about mid afternoon. We got in above them, but could not see them due to the steepness of the rocky terrain. So we decided to wait them out to see what they would do. The hunting Gods were smiling on me that day. After about 2 hours of sitting on top of the world in a 45 to 50 mph wind, the rams began to move up. The biggest in the bunch presented me with about a 150 to 160 yard shot. The 160 Nosler Partition from my 7mm Mag performed perfectly. The ram took about 3 steps, fell over and then gave one of the famous mountain critter death kicks and sent himself rolling down the steep, rocky mountain side. It took us about 25 minutes to get down to him. WOW...what a feeling to be able to touch MY ram! He was bigger than I thought he was. It was a long day of hunting, left camp at first light at 5:45 AM and finally got back to camp at 10:30 PM that night. A great hunt!!!

The preference point system does work. For those of you still trying to draw a tag somewhere, keep applying. Your time will come.

Congrats, I finally drew an elk tag in SD after ten years. It's not 24 but I definitely understand your point of view. I'm glad you had a great hunt, looks like the wait was worth it.

Thank you all for your kind comments. The hunt was a dream come true for me. I have shot many animals through the years, but this one was really something special.

Chad, In answer to your question, I was hunting in Area 5, west of Meeteetse. There sure are a lot of grizzlies in that area!!!!

Ruff, I'm not sure where I'll try to head next. I'd like to return to Alaska, even if only for the great fishing. Also, I sure would like to pack a rifle through part of the Northwest Territories or the Yukon, while I am still in good health and physically able to do so. Do know of any sure numbers to win the lottery???

Good hunting to all,

Dubbud
