Hi everyone
Its all quite on Kiwi Corner with no posts or photo's for a while.
So how about a report from you all?
For me the highlight was having a Flocknockers shoot on a pea paddock with Skeet and 5tolen & Dean over the weekend.
great experince shooting out of laydown blinds, seeing birds so close but I couldn't seem to connect untill they were someway off.
Must be used to long shots or something. Thanks guys your'e great company.
How did 2 shot's cruise go? See any geese over the 10 days?
What about Tim? you all goosed out or what.
Don't know if we will get out again this season or not have to see

Hi Craig, well I am not quite goosed out, but i took a couple of weeks off in protest of letters F&G apparently sent out to farmers here. I have now shot about 140 which includes 30 ish at the lake this week. My problem is I have been so active in finding the geese I can't keep up with it all with work ect. One spot I hope to shoot soon is so close to home I can't believe they went under my radar. Unfortunatly for me the farm owner had someone put a shot at the lot producing 1 goose only days before I called. I'm talking gooses in the hundreds!! But they will be in contact when they arrive back.

Have you heard about the article in the Times Age Last night. If not you will. Seems like you might be right about there being no winners in the "incident" at the lake, quite literally. Who would want to be the man that dropped the straw that broke the camels back!!!

Hope to end the season around the 160 170 mark could have been 2hundy without the break. Would like to post pics but I spose one dead goose is like the next.

hi Breda
Glad to see you doing your bit.
What leters did F& G send out? Seen all the stuff in the paper
& I hear TV3 did something on it.
We where told on Tue Night that no charges would be followed through against the said gentleman.
Have to see where the smoke settles I surpose
Go & get em this weekend

I see from the article that the numbers at the Lake need top be reduced by 1000 approx.

I wonder how long it would take to do a survey of the guys that hunt around the Lake as to the realistic numbers that are actually shot.

If 1000 is the target then I would think with all the guys we have spoken to or heard about, like Breda, then that number would have been easily been surpased. Even witn our tallies added to the heap.

It gives me the impression that F&G have no idea about the real geese population numbers or how many are actully killed. And this is just the summer season. If they were aware of the numbers that had been harvested then surely they would be shouting that from the rooftops to support their argument about the numbers. I am sure the actual numbers, as we have all suspected, are far in excess of the numbers they seem to think they are.

I assume you have read the article sent to you by 2 Shot, from the Times Age. We think there is also a bit of oneupsmanship by Federated Farmers Sticking it to F&G over the "Dirty Dairying".

I wonder who the winners and losers are going to be when the dust settles.

Just my five cents worth.

We had a cuple of good hunts on the weekend. Ended up with 20 on Saturday morning shot over Barley stubble and another 15 on Sunday morning on an adajcent barley stubble paddock. We were hoping for a good shoot on Sunday as there was a forecast for scattered showers and Southerly winds. Reality was, where we were, still & misty. One of the highlights of the morning on Sunday was the hundreds and hundreds of mallards that landed amongst of Goose decoys. Absolutely unbelieveable. Looked like some of the pictures we see in the American magazines of the migrating mallards.

Hi MGB
Looks like a great weekend nice to see you wacking plenty.
What you say about F&G not knowing the count is so true.
Always done to late IMHO as if you can fly why would you hang around the Lake after moulting?.
It has always been assumed by F&G that every goose flys down to the Lake to breed and moult
My eyes tell me that more & more are breeding elsewhere and moulting while the youngsters are growing up, in fact in one area the sign I saw this year I would just about bet that a heap of non breeders aren't going down there either.
It Still looks like a no win situation for any party to me, hope it all works out.

I agree with you MGB and Butcher-1, the whole appears to be a little over the top, i found article 2shot sent to be a little one sided and not totally factual. I read F&G wan't the popuplatt 2000 by next moult coun't, i take this to mean the "lake" popuplation, as i too find it very hard to believe that all the geese to there to moult, i have found the same issue on the kapiti coast where all the geese to to this "one spot" when i found 30 odd birds on to other spots that were still moulting opening weekend, i wounder how many more i would have found if i could hunt every farm

It is good to see that the early starter or shall we say the many that never stopped, is not getting charged hopefull this will be a good wake up call for him, and make him abide by the rules that the rest of us find so easy to follow.

BREDA what is this letter, would be keen to know more...

good luck for this weekend it the LAST for the summer
