View Full Version : A little shooting

I got out this morning and put in a little time on the 200 yard range. I shot a few from old faithful, which is my Remington 788 in .222. You gotta like it when a "cheap" gun prints 3/4" groups at 200. I've never bedded this gun, and probably never will (doesn't need it). The load is 25.5 gr. WW748 with 50gr. VMax's. Scope is a B&L Elite 4000 6-24x. I was playing with a varying wind (0 - 10mph), generally from left to right.

I think I've settled on a load for the Remingotn 700 LVSF in .204, so I loaded up a bunch to see how they work out with a more involved test. Load is 30.0 gr. BL-C(2) behind 40 gr. Bergers. I doesn't shoot like the 788, but not bad considering I'm still working with a miserable factory trigger (Timney is on the way!) and the scope's high end is only 14x (VXIII 4.5 - 14x).

I tried the .204 at 300 yards as welll. I only shot 2 - 3 shot groups. 1 was 3.3", the other 2.8". so, not too bad. That's probably better than I can shoot off the stix at a coyote anyway.

Anyone else doing a little shooting?

Nice groups.

I use to have a 788 in a .222 Tack driver too,
A neighbor loaded shells for me for free, All I had to do was give him empty brass; what a dream for a 14 year-old kid.
