Default Look what followed me home......

...from a local gun shop last week. It's a new Savage model 12VLP in .204 ruger, just like the one I had stolen last Oct. I really wanted a lighter rifle for predator hunting but I couldnt pass up the deal. This rifle goes for about $700 and was on clearence. I got it out the door for $550! Going to do some slimming down on it this summer. Getting a Bell & Carlson stock for it which will take off 1 1/2 lbs and also get the 26" barrel chopped down to 24" so it balances better. I picked up a Nikon Coyote special 4.5 X 14 scope and am waiting on a one piece alum ring and base mounting system from Deadnuts. The gun weighs 10lbs as is and I want it to keep it that way fully loaded.
Love them Savages, can tear them down and build them as you like!

Sweet! I'll look forward to the pics when the cutomization is all done. I wouldn't might a review on that Nikon coyote scope too - almost got one for myself but have been hesitating as I have no Nikon experience.

Wow! Nice rifle! Is that barrel fluted? It looks like it in the pics. Good luck with your customizing, should be a furslayer for sure.

Hey Rob, just a word of caution. I was made aware by a gun dealer who quit selling Nikon that they dumped the line at the store as Nikon doesn't offer a warranty on any of their scopes sold in Canada and he said he didnt enjoy dealing with angry customers when a few problems arose.

The Coyote Special is a Buckmaster series with different reticle. I've owned 4 other Nikon Buckmasters and my brother owns 3 more and we both think they are the best bang for the buck. We both have had ZERO problems with them. I have a new Bushnell Elite 3200 on my muzzleloader and I think I like the Nikon better. Not sure why but I do.

Well, I took her out to the range today...what can I say, she's a shooter! Once I got her zeroed in I shot three different groups with three different bullets, 32gr blitzkings, 30gr Bergers and 35gr bergers. I didn't put much effort into it as it was quite breezy with a little snow so I was suprised that the biggest group was a tad under 3/4" and the smallest was just a tad under 1/2". Thats darn good with only 18 rounds down the pipe. These are all reloads from my other gun, and non of them was my favorite load! I bet I can squeeze my groups down to under 1/2" consistantly when I do some serious load development in the spring. For now I'm very happy and ready for some coyotes. Got her dialed in at 3/4" high at 100 yards.
